“Tashua Knolls Golf Course continues to work closely with Audubon International on their ‘Environmental Management Practices for Golf Courses’ and follows and implements the guidelines in the CAGCS’s ‘Connecticut Best Management Practices’. In addition, Tashua continually monitors industry developments to work toward significantly reducing chemical exposure throughout the entire property.”
In recent years, Tashua Knolls Golf Course has taken large strides towards becoming an eco-friendly facility. We have taken the initiative to minimize the environmental impact of golf course operations, by improving our maintenance practices in ways that enhance the natural areas of the course and promote the native wildlife. This initiative has been assisted through numerous environmental programs, such as the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf (ACSP), Monarchs in the Rough, Pollinator Pathway, and the Aspetuck Land Trust. Through these initiatives, Tashua Knolls Golf Course has helped the town of Trumbull to receive its Sustainable CT – Bronze Certification, and the town is currently working towards its Silver Certification. Here are a few examples of eco-friendly actions we’ve been taking:
- Leaving natural grass areas around ponds untouched to absorb runoff into the ponds. Click here to learn more about the benefits of tall grass on the golf course.
- Limiting the use of pesticides, and testing new organic, eco-friendly compounds to minimize the negative impact of course maintenance.
- Composing a journal of the wildlife inventory on the golf course.
- Creating a “Pollinator Pathway” of native plants to provide nourishment and habitat for endangered pollinators.
- Creating a Bluebird house trail on holes 7, 9, and by the ponds to provide safe passage and nesting for the species.
- Establishing a rain garden to catch the water runoff from washing carts
